Virus Problems

It would be a good idea to keep a regular check on the following NSW DET Software website for Virus Patches, fix tools and Symantec Virus protection software. There are a couple of options of protection your IBM workstations and servers from computer viruses and NSW DET Corporate IT are working on a number of solutions. In the mean time here are the options:

*Ask me to burn you the CD of the NSW DET Virus Software (install on each workstation manually or through a login script on the server).

*Call 1800-065-324 and order the Virus Update CDs: CD1 and CD2.

*Download the virus software, patches, and fix tools from the NSW DET Software Web Site (install on each workstation manually or through a login script on the server)

*Use a product such as GP Proxy to automatically update each IBM Workstations on your school network.

*Use a SUS Server to automatically update your workstations.

Note: any virus solution in place could be replaced by NSW DET Corporate IT strategy once a decision has been made.

Virus Fix Tools

If your computer continually reboots it is most likely you have the blaster or welchia virus. Before running any updates I would run these tools. The most common virus which is still in the NSW DET network is the welchia and the blaster viruses.

FixWelch.exe

FixBlast.exe

FxDumaru.exe

FixSbigF.exe

FxBeagle.exe

FxMydoom.exe

Virus Patches

My advice would be to apply the oldest patch first and then to the newest patch and make sure that you are applying the right patch to the right operating system.
